Forged by fire.
Finished by hand.

Hand-forged knives, made one at a time in a Melkbosstrand workshop, for the people who use them and the ones who inherit them.

Hand-forged
carbon & damascus steel

Art and precision. Beauty and strength. Stillness and power. Every blade holds them in one piece of steel.

The Maker

Thirty years in logistics. Then a knife for his son.

Anton Kock made his first blade as a birthday gift for his son’s fourteenth. When the company he’d worked at for nearly three decades closed its doors in 2020, that hobby became the whole plan.

With YouTube as his only teacher, he taught himself to forge. Five years on, his knives sit on the pass at La Colombe and Salsify, in home kitchens across South Africa, and in collections around the world.

A knife should feel less like a tool and more like an extension of the hand that holds it.

Every commission starts with a conversation — the work, the hand, the way it’ll be used — so the finished blade fits its owner and no one else. It’s slow work, and Anton won’t send out anything that isn’t right. That’s the whole business.

How it’s made

From fire to finish.

Designing the knife at the bench
01

Design

Steel, length, balance and handle — chosen with you, sketched by hand.

Grinding the blade to shape
02

Shape

Forged and ground to its profile and bevel, until the blade takes on its hammered finish.

The blade in the forge fire
03

Temper

Back into the fire, then quenched and tempered, so the steel holds a hard, lasting edge.

Fitting the handle and leather
04

Handle

Hardwood, horn or resin is shaped and fitted by hand. No two are alike.

The finished blade
05

Finish

Sharpened, balanced, and paired with a stitched leather sheath where it’s needed.

Engraved commissions

Made to be given.

For the occasions that deserve more than another thing in a box. A blade made to order and engraved by hand, with a name, a date, or a few quiet words, and kept for a lifetime of use.

Owner’s guide

Look after it, and it’ll outlast you.

  • 01

    Hand wash, dry straight away

Carbon steel and dishwashers don’t mix. A quick wipe after use keeps the edge honest.

  • 02

Hone often, sharpen when it asks

Hone before a big job; sharpen when it needs it. A dull knife is the dangerous one.

  • 03

    A thin film of oil

A light wipe of food-safe oil protects the steel between jobs and keeps patina even.

  • 04

    Store it properly

Magnetic strip, block or sheath. Never loose in a drawer where the edge takes a beating.

Every knife ships with the full care card. Gone blunt over the years? Send it back for a resharpen.
